Odziezowe Pole (Warsaw, Poland)

Most stores along the popular shopping streets Nowy Striat and Ulica Mokotowska seem to feature mainly international designer labels, including the two boutiques I mentioned in my previous posts. One of the exceptions is Odziezowe Pole (meaning "in the fields of clothes") - something of a mini-concept store - which showcases clothes from some of the most talented local fashion designers.

Upon entering this little shop, I found myself in an empty cafe. But once I made my way down the stairs to the lower level, I was greeted with racks of dresses, blouses and jackets - all on sale of course. Clothing seemed to be sorted by color and category, which was extremely helpful, because I didn't know where to start. The designs are beautiful in their simplicity and workmanship, from the long silk evening dresses in muted colors to the cute wool pea coats in bold yellow or orange.

As the sales were on, all items were incredibly reasonable. An example: the silk dresses cost about 299 PLN (65 EUR/85 USD), the regular price would have been double that, which is still not bad considering the materials used. I was also told that none of these designs are mass-produced, so if you do end up buying something, it's definitely going to be unique. Best place to pick up a souvenir if you're ever in Warsaw!

Lilla Moda (Warsaw, Poland)

I have to admit - the main reason I found this boutique is because I'm a big wimp who can't handle the cold and therefore just needed to warm up in an enclosed space for 5 minutes. This shop is surprisingly large and has quite a sizable collection of designer fashion (Moschino, Alberta Feretti, Just Cavalli etc.). Again this shop was relatively empty except for another customer, so the 5 sales assistants unfortunately didn't have much to do. I'm pretty sure this store is usually quite a bit busier, but due to the economic crisis and the weakened Polish currency almost everything was 70% off. The regular-priced items were cheaper compared to Euro-land as well, but again this is mainly because of the currency situation.

In any case, if you're in the neighborhood, this is a great place to get a good bargain at the moment. I left the store with a McQ by Alexander McQueen coat, that cost me 120,- EUR (70% off). No way I would have found this for the price anywhere in Central Europe. The staff were very helpful in trying to find clothes in the right size and color. The boutique itself, kept in simple blacks and grays, is very pleasant to browse. Clothing is sorted by category instead of designer, which gives you a great overview of what to look for.

Likus Concept Store (Warsaw, Poland)

Greetings from Warsaw! It's my first visit and boy, did I pick a great time to come here. It's freezing!! Sightseeing is a must (more so than shopping), but it was quite a painful, almost unbearable experience to walk around, despite UGGs and 5 layers of clothing. Never mind, I did of course find some stores and even though I was told in advance that this city "isn't for shopaholics" - untrue by the way - there are a few places worth visiting.

One example is the Likus Concept Store. Like most self-proclaimed concept stores, you'll most likely end up spending more time looking at the surroundings than buying whatever they sell. Hidden in a backyard in a 19th century building that formerly housed the luxury baths and saunas, you'll be greeted by a receptionist in charge of the restaurant which is housed on the ground floor. I dined here with my significant other the same night and can definitely recommend the fusion cuisine, though the prices are quite high for Warsaw. The shop itself mainly features Diesel (entire basement) at the average European prices. Oh yeah, watch out for the pool which I almost landed in when I wasn't paying attention.

Overlooking the restaurant, the upper level has a good collection of clothes and accessories by designer labels such as Viktor & Rolf, John Galliano and See by Chloe to name a few. Sales were still going on, but the store was completely empty so the staff were quite attentive. Unfortunately I didn't buy anything - I was too distracted (in a good way) by the store design to browse too much. Worth a visit even if you're not into designer fashion.
