Repetto's Paper Ballerinas (Paris, France)

Back in the day when I was smaller and more flexible (i.e. I was about eight), I was convinced I'd become a professional ballerina in the future. I took ballet classes, had a lovely pink tutu and the dainty pointe shoes. Then I got taller, my flexibility went out the window and more and more black entered my wardrobe. But like me, many women out there still secretly dream of being a graceful and seemingly weightless dancer who gets to wear the most exquisitely girly clothes.

The windows of Repetto's flagship boutique are a secret crush of mine, mainly because they allow you to escape to that ballerina world. If you ever pass it, you'll likely see a gaggle of female passersby (including yours truly) staring at the wonderful installations that make a dancer's dream come to life. And as Google is kindly reminding everyone that it's Tschaikovsky's birthday today, I found it quite fitting to post these wonderful displays, featuring paper cut-out ballerinas - all of which rotate. I've also included a short video clip at the end of the post so you get an idea.

I love Repetto's contemporary shoes and the original ballet flat.

I used to do ballet too (age 9-17)! Now I can't even do a split! LOL.

  4. Hi there! I love these shots, esp. the one with the flared out skirt! Growing up, I skipped ballet and took tap and jazz classes because I didn't think I'd be able to get on my toes, but always thought ballerinas were so beautiful and of course graceful! Have a fun time in Stockholm! xo, mel

  57. Ah, Repetto! I was in once when we lived there and bought my daughter the most gorgeous leotard with a tutu, it was a ruffle of pale pink tulle that dipped to a v-shape in the front and back. She was only three years old but they brought out an age 6 size which looked tiny! They told me it was bigger than it looked so I bought it. It wasn't! It was so tight on her and I thought, even the children in Paris are tiny!

Yes, I would love to meet up with you in Paris! I will probably get in the evening of July 4 and return on the 7th, just a quickie! Hopefully some sales are happening but for sure we can manage a lovely cafe visit!

And the ballerina window display is gorgeous! So precious. I know if I went in that boutique I would definitely end up touching the tutus and hence breaking them.
