Those who've been reading this blog for a while know that I usually publish an 'Impressions' post whenever I visit a city and want to introduce it prior to writing about any of the stores I've found. For some bizarre reason, I've never gotten around to doing one for Paris, even though I've been living here for well over a year and it's one of those places that's beyond photogenic. Nevertheless, it's not always easy to capture every aspect of the city and whenever I take one of my frequent long strolls through the French capital, I somehow forget to take any shots.
So I've decided to share a few photographs - the majority focus on the more scenic views as these are the ones that made me fall in love with the city when I first visited at the age of 14. Back then I didn't really care about the fashion aspect, but I do blame Paris (and France in general) for turning me into a bit of an obsessive foodie. Though the outside world and the rest of France tends to view Parisians as being incredibly pretentious (and they'll even admit this themselves), you can't help but feel you'd be the same if you were born and raised in a city that's not just culturally rich, but where even toddlers seem to be wearing the chicest outfits and every local supermarket stocks the largest variety of foie gras. Of course labeling all Parisians as snooty is a harsh generalization, especially considering that like any big city it has a diverse population in terms of social class and ethnicity. If you ever plan on visiting, I'd advise you to take a walk through the less touristy areas in the 9th, 11th or 18th arrondissements (to name a few, i.e. any area not mentioned in a guide book), just to get a feel for local life. I plan on doing posts on Parisian style and a short city guide in the near future, so stay tuned for more. Until then, I hope you enjoy these photos.

ReplyDeleteYou've given your readers such a delight with your incredible photos. What a visual treat today. I can't imagine growing up French & living in Paris? How could you not grow-up without high standards and values when it comes to culture? I look forward to your future post(s) in regards to French style. I have always been intrigued by the allure of a French woman. A sort of class that we Americans find it are to replicate.
ReplyDeleteHoping your weekend was as grand as your photos. Thanks for taking the time to post! x

Hello,
ReplyDeleteLovely post and great photos. I am an American living in Lyon and I have the same feeling about this city. It is incredibly beautiful and has everything you could ever want, including a great style of life. A very easy city, after New York where I come from.
I have a blog and I would love to link to yours. I also have a website in the states where I sell only basic French products. I would love to hear your suggestions for your favorite products.
Look forward to hearing back from you!

Wonderfully insightful post. I've always meant to go to Paris, it's been on my "must-visit" list for so many years, but I've never really got round to it. I've been to Disneyland Paris, but that's not the same is it?!
ReplyDeleteThe l'arc de Triomphe is actually my favourite monument in the whole wide world, primarily because I spent about 3 years discussing it in my French oral exams at school! And ironically enough, I've yet to see it close up. Hmmm.
Love the look of that food stall btw...!

When I did a 3 month tour of Europe back in 2008, Paris was hands down my favorite city (and I visited over 20 of them!). There's something about the scenery and the culture and the people that just hooks you in.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I've changed my domain! Please don't forget to update your bookmarks to http://www.thelingerieaddict.com. Thanks!
sometimes it's nice not to take photos and just enjoy, but thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteHi - I finally managed to write my Wunderkind post and naturally had to mention your well written post about it, too. Sabine x

Hey sooo uh can I come room with you for eternity? So jealous you get to live in Paris, I'm DYING to see it! I wish I spoke French... -le sigh-. These pictures are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis was so fabulous to read. I need to see France before I turn 30...don't know why 30, but its just the milestone I set for myself. The architecture and just the simple geography of the city planning are so beautiful. I love how you post these pictures of places, it just serves for even more of an inspiration!
ReplyDelete*sigh* these pics are outstanding! thank you for sharing a piece of your Paris experience with folks like myself who have yet to visit the city. MAJOR jonesing for that visit now!! :o)
ReplyDeleteI love Paris, as well. My son graduated with a Masters from Parson's School of Design so we were there many many times, and we still go. I did a post on the amazing Place des Vosges a few weeks ago...one of the most enchanting places in the city. And, I love love love the little streets of the Marais, which you showed. Your blog is lovely...thank you for all this work.
