McQueen's Medieval Fantasy (London, UK)

While everyone's already applauding the SS11 Alexander McQueen runway looks, courtesy of the incredible work of Sarah Burton, it's hard to forget McQueen's final collection for FW10 which was presented a few weeks after his death. When I last visited London, I was delighted to see two of the Fall runway dresses in the flagship window, which perfectly represented the medieval theme dominated by digital prints of art (depicting everything from angels to demons), intricate gold embroidery and stunning embellishments. Combined with McQueen's signature tailoring, every piece was a showstopper and if you took a closer look, you'll most likely also have noticed... the shoes. While most are only available via custom order, the store window ones were available for sale - if you had several thousand £ to spare.

  3. THOSE SHOES. The entire window display is just so opulent. It's gotta be better to visit that store than to visit the Louvre. Surely the craftsmanship and ingenuity are just as pronounced.

  7. Just gorgeous! Even though the McQueen pieces were never my personal style, you cannot deny the beauty in them! He had a vision and incredible talent - what a loss to the fashion world! Hopefully, his legacy will continue to live through his clothing!

  11. WoW! amazing post!!! Really crazy and cool clothes and shoes!!! Makes me smile!!!

Yes, I agree! You can have a perfect life and not be boring.
Maybe, perfect balance, was not the best translation, but I could not find a better one. For exemple the swedish word lagom is a perfect word to use when someone ask you how much food you want on your plate, you answer "lagom" (not to much, not to little). Swedish people are a lot like this, they are not cold or hot, they want to blend in, like when something is very popular everyone has it. So I wanted to illustrate the fact that it's fun and OK to not always be perfect, not always be something between cold and hot. But this is my opinion XD hm... hahah, this become a pretty long letter, hope you understand what I meant, my english isn't as good as I wished!!!

    much love

  32. Thank you for your comment! I've been really OUT of the blogging world lately, since I moved to London and I'm so not proud of it!

    Anyway.
This probably sounds stupid and pathetic, but I CANNOT go to an Alexander McQueen store, I just deny his death; he is alive for me. Which sounds pretty mental but I don't care... can you believe that the first thing I checked when I had the internet in here was 'Alexander McQueen tomb'? seems like he is cremated...

    Bad times.

  43. I especially love the shoes maybe because I can see myself wearing all of them. The rest must be considered museum pieces. And, once again, I am a bit sad I can not see it with my own eyes.
Thank you for your wonderful comment under my "French girls" post. While I do realize that majority of the probably are visitors to Paris, but this is the case of Paris transforming fashion and your every day choices in clothes.Somehow in Paris you feel more libirated to be more fashion forward, to stand out, to try things you would never try otherwise. I call it a magic of Paris:-)))
I would love for you to come to New York. Please, let me know when you will be comming: I would love to invite you for a cup of coffee.:-)

  47. That entire collection was incredible. But holy, those shoes are on another level entirely. If I had a few thousand pounds to spare I'd put them on display. Treat them like statues. I could never bring myself to wear them for fear of scuffing them.

    Love!

  52. what're your personal thoughts about burton's work? i think it's rather obvious she's done it but it makes me wonder if it's sustainable. then i went on to wonder other things... so far, i've read two articles only. one sung praises readily while the other one gave a more balanced view.
