Impressions of Geneva (Switzerland)

I know I've been bad and ignored the blogging world for far too long. Although I only meant to take a short break, I ended up taking something of a blog hiatus, which I once again blame on great weather and a fair amount of traveling. One destination I thought I'd share with you was a recent trip the hubby and I took to Geneva on our way to the Mont Blanc mountains. Though we'd driven through the city in the past, we never bothered actually staying there for longer, so we thought it was about time to take a closer look.

Even though we only spent a few days there, I did get a feel for the place which as expected is beautiful, very international (thanks to the various United Nations offices and other institutions) and unfortunately not that cheap at all. Because Switzerland is better known for chocolate and cheese, rather than fashion (unless you count the watch industry), I didn't end up doing any shopping at all, so there won't be any store posts related to Geneva. Nevertheless I thought it might be interesting to share some of my impressions, so I hope you enjoy them!

  9. i've "been" to Geneva except i was stuck at the airport in an aircraft and rotating between serving drinks to passengers and resting on galley lockers. can't remember how long we're stranded.

these places look so serene and laid back. nice.

  12. so pretty - no wonder Geneva often tops the world's list of most liveable city in the world. I would love to visit some day.

i totally understand about not wanting to blog when it's summer and so beautiful outside. who wants to sit in front of a computer inside typing? better take advantage of the warm days.

Re - stampede wow that's very impressive that you've been! i have not myself - i'm kind of scared to go! it's very rowdy.

counting down now to my trip to europe..can't wait!

  13. If I was jetting with my hubby to all these fabulous locations, I'd go on a blog hiatus too ;o) Glad you're back, but keep the travel posts coming! I love to hear about your many trips!

  15. No one travels (& shops) to the most magnificent of places as you do. So fun to see your photos of your Geneva trip. I have not been to Switzerland since the mid-70's (sad) & now you've re-kindled that desire to visit sooner than later. Never feel bad for not blogging. Sunshine & travel are top priorities in my book. Great weekend to you x

  21. Hey wow... and welcome back blogging! Sometimes a break is just what you need.

I also went to Geneva some years ago... http://www.makinen.fr/susa/wordpress/2007/05/02/switzerland/#more-41
...and loved it! Had no idea of the water spring. As we got closer to it, I stared feeling these gentle sprinkles of water, my hubby fully enjoying the spectacle on my astonished face. Only after a while did he tell me where the drops were coming from... and then of course I saw it too - guys guys!

Thank you for your (blog) friendship. It means so much to me. Especially now!

  25. I completely agree with Switzerland being expensive. In Lucerne, I was so shocked when the server handed us our dinner tab, I was like, I'm not going to open a Swiss account, I'm just paying for food!

I've never been to Geneva, but these pictures are an inspiration to go someday!!

  38. Welcome back! It's weird, I always think travelling should help blogging because you get more input, but when I'm on the road I find it nearly impossible to find the time and concentration for blogging. Guess it needs a bit more 'Muse'...
Geneva looks lovely. I've never been, but an acquaintance of mine just moved there, and I think she's quite smitten.
