McQueen's Kaleidoscope of Prints (London, UK)

As some may know, I'm a huge fan of Alexander McQueen and while my visit to his London flagship in February coincided with his untimely passing, my last trip to the boutique in April was far less sombre. One of the reasons was that the once blackened store windows were replaced with an incredible array of colors and prints taken from the current season collection. Though the digital prints have proved to be a huge hit and I had been eyeing them in various editorials and a few retail spaces before, these displays blew my mind. Nothing compares to seeing the amazing pieces in person. Oh, and the icing on the cake? A pair of the crazy runway shoes was on display as well, though unfortunately not available in store to try on...

alexander mcqueen londonalexander mcqueen londonalexander mcqueen londonThe second display featuring the same print, but reworked in a simple jersey t-shirt dress. The ultimate pieces were the incredible runway shoes... I couldn't take my eyes off them.

alexander mcqueen londonAccessories taken from both windows include the snakeskin 'De-Manta' clutch and the Knuckle-Duster clutch.

alexander mcqueen londonMore prints, as seen in-store, such as the moth design (top), mantis print (bottom left & middle) and the butterfly print (bottom right).

alexander mcqueen londonFor a more nautical theme, the jellyfish and pixelated jellyfish print are the perfect choice.

Though it saddens me to think these are part of McQueen's last full collection we'll ever see, I'm glad that Sarah Burton has just been named the new Creative Director of the fashion house. Considering she managed to complete most of the incredible FW10 pieces, I'm confident she'll manage to incorporate his vision in future collections, despite the fact that no one will ever come close to replacing him.

  17. i think the store would be swept off the earth, if the shoes were for trying on :)

i am, however, swept off my feet by the mere look at the pictures. can only try to imagine how it looks in real life.

the jersey print dress... i think i'm gonna have to write a letter to Santa.

oh, and p.s. i've changed my address, and blogger.com doesn't update automatically.

  19. Rrrrr! Wild and gorgeous!!! I love every single piece of the displays. Thank you so very much for, once again, bringing those who are far away, a look at what is going on in London. I wish I could be there to see it with my own eyes. I had no idea Sarah Burton was chosen as a new Creative irecto. Hoping she will be able to fill this giant shoes under sucha tremendous pressure and high expectations.
Thank you so very much for the wonderful comment under my Chanel clogs post. I went a bit insane there for a bit, but back to normal happy self now waiting for my ticket to Paris instead. :-))) You are absolutely right: I, too, often buy expensive shoes and find myself not wearing them all too much. I will continue to work on my will power. :-) Wishing you beautiful weekend.:-)

  25. This final collection was just a beauty to look at and so inspiring. It saddens me to think that the man who could create this collection full of vibrancy and creativity, could have been feeling such the opposite in his personal life.

  26. Woah, what an intense display. Alexander McQueen was a genius, the world sorely misses all the potentially amazing collections he would have produced.

  35. Hi there,
I finally get to read this post - been really out and about the past week. Today i am relaxing at home and catching up on things. It is really sad about Alexander McQueen, but he will always be remembered for his amazing talent. Do you still have your skull ring from Alexander McQueen?

  41. This is such a feast for the senses! Everything here simply commands admiration... and that's looking at it from my laptop. I can't even begin to imagine how even more striking they'd look in person. You're so lucky to do what you do! And lucky us that you share it here on your blog!

PS - The French Laudnry cookbook is definitely worth buying. There's a few recipes there that are simple and fun to make. It's really more than a coffee table book and you could use it for what's it's for, a cookbook! And yes, since I started blogging agian, it has taken over my life recently, lol. Shopping trips to Saks and Neimans have now been replaced with grocery trips to Wholefoods and farmer's market. Now wondering if my blog is still a fashion blog. =)

  52. Oh my gosh this is BEAUTIFUL. It is sad to think of this as his last full collection, but what a way to end it (whether he thought of it that way or not). I do hope critics don't slam Sara Burton for the F/W collection! I can't imagine the kind of stress must be coming with that job!
