Like most British cities that don't happen to be London or inhabited by overpaid football (i.e. soccer) players, Glasgow tends to be slightly underrated when it comes to entertainment, food, culture and... of course, shopping. Edinburgh might be Scotland's capital, but Glasgow is its largest city and the third largest in the UK (by population). This means that while you won't be able to find every single restaurant, store or museum that you would in London, you are sure to discover an equivalent or something even more unique.
Now would also be a good time to mention that this is the UK's second largest shopping economy. No, I'm not just referring to kilt and whiskey purchases. What you'll find here are never ending high streets with retail favorites ranging from All Saints to Topshop. You have your luxury flagships and big department stores of course, but for most people, it's the smaller boutiques and vintage stores in the bohemian West End that rank as the best in Britain. With its lively student community thanks mainly to the University of Glasgow, this is also where you'll come across many cosy restaurants and quirky back streets.

Mmmm. Can't wait to check out your Glasgow finds. They're so big on Charles Rennie Mackintosh there-- I loved checking out his work. I even loved the soggy weather during my visit. Is it just me or are people really hard to understand there? We speak the same language, yet the Glaswegian accent is really tough.
ReplyDeleteHaha, the accent does take some getting used to, but after a while you'll get the hang of it. It's a lovely place to visit, but I"m usually pretty lazy and tend to do mainly high-street shopping when I'm in the UK (as I can't get most of the UK brands here).
ReplyDeleteGlasgow certainly has an unpolished charm all of it's own, I do love the Urban Outfitters and there's a great little shopping centre full of wrought iron balustrades that's great for a coffee, but I do prefer Edinburgh. There's something about it's cobbled streets and upmarket boutiques that is hard to beat.
ReplyDeleteWow, you're moving really fast!!)))
